Onside Law advised Participate Sport on the private equity funding required for the acquisition, and the acquisition itself, of Human Race Partnership. The investment and acquisition has helped catapult Participate Sport into becoming one of the largest operators of mass participation sports events, principally triathlons, cycling and running events, in the UK. Events include the Toshiba Windsor Triathlon, Cycletta, the Festival of Sport and a substantial stake in the British 10K London Run.
onside law successfully defends life ban at CAS
onside law have succesfully represented the governing bodies of tennis in defending their imposition of a life time ban from tennis on Daniel Kollerer.
CAS heard the player’s appeal over two days in late November 2011 at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne and announced thier confirmation of the ban in late March.
Lead counsel and onside partner Jamie Singer commented “This was a critical case for tennis. It was the first case of match fixing in tennis to go before CAS and it was imperative that a robust message was sent to the tennis world that match fixing is not tolerated in tennis. We are delighted that CAS have confirmed the life time ban and insured that tennis has proven match fixing will not be tolerated. We were also pleased that our co-operation with Christian Leathley of Herbert Smith’s International Arbitration Department worked so well”.
Elizabeth’s Legacy of Hope
This year onside law will be supporting Elizabeth’s Legacy of Hope, a charity which offers children who have lost limbs a bright and active future, through providing low-cost prosthetic limbs and funding further technical research into prosthetics.

onside law client Mark Cavendish named BBC Sports Personality of the Year
Congratulations to onside law client Mark Cavendish named BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2011.
The cycling World Champion and Tour de France green jersey winner gained almost half of the 342,147 votes ahead of Open champion Darren Clarke in second place and 5,000-metre gold medallist Mo Farah in third.
Other nominated onside law clients included Rory McIlroy, Andy Murray, Mark Cavendish, Andrew Strauss, Alastair Cook & Luke Donald.
onside law advises the England and Wales Cricket Board on Investec Test Match sponsorship deal
onside law, advised the England and Wales Cricket Board on its recently announced sponsorship deal which sees Investec Bank become the new title sponsor of Test Match cricket in England and Wales for the next 10 years.
The landmark announcement marks the longest sponsorship deal in the ECB’s history and sees Investec assume its rights for the 2012 England series against the West Indies and South Africa. The term also notably encompasses three home “Ashes” series in 2013, 2015 and 2019.
Chris Walsh, Partner at onside law, who advised on the deal said: “the ECB is a valued long term client of the firm and it was fantastic to work closely with the ECB’s commercial team on one of the most significant and intricate deals in the ECB’s history.”
