Starting the role this month, Kate succeeds Compton Hellyer who has held the role of Non-Executive Chairman since 2007, two years after the firm was founded. Compton will remain part of the firm’s close group of advisors.

Kate has spent much of her career in sport, having founded her own sports communications agency in 2003. After selling and then stepping back from the agency in late 2016, Kate went on to work with UEFA helping launch their first women’s campaign, “We Play Strong”, then joined M&C Saatchi in 2018 as CMO. More recently she launched a strategic brand consultancy called Platform. Kate was also on the Board of Sport England for six years (2013-19) and was instrumental in the inception and delivery of the long running and award-winning campaign, “This Girl Can”.

With a phenomenal reputation across the industry, Onside Law works with some of the biggest names and rights-holders in football, golf, cricket, rugby and motorsport. Its clients include a host of Premier League and top European football clubs, global sports stars, broadcasters, the ECB, FIA, The Ryder Cup and World Rugby to name a few.

2020 saw the firm celebrate its 15th year and continued success and recognition. Ranked once again in Tier 1 for Sports Law in the Legal 500, it was also listed in The Times 200 Best Law Firms 2021 for a third year in a row, as well as Highly Commended for Boutique Law Firm of the Year in the 2020 Lawyer Awards.

Compton commented, “I am delighted to welcome Kate as my successor as the Chair at Onside Law. Kate’s broad and entrepreneurial skills set will give a new impetus to the direction of the business and I am very pleased that I will continue to be actively involved.”

Founding Partner Oli Hunt said, “We would like to thank Compton for his thirteen years’ service as Chairman. He has been instrumental in helping guide the business and the founders over the years. As Kate steps into the business we are excited about the energy and strategic focus she will bring. She has a reputation for delivering transformative change within businesses and we look forward to harnessing these skills for Onside Law.”

Kate comments, “I’ve known the team at Onside Law for much of my career and I’m delighted to be stepping into the firm as Chair where I look forward to helping them take the business forward and realise ambitious growth plans.”
